The Key to Building a Timeless & Memorable Brand Experience
When creating a brand identity, there are a variety of decisions you need to make to ensure your brand is timeless and can evolve as the years go on.
In this post, I’ve put together a list of five principles for creating a timeless and memorable brand identity and experience. ↓
01 / Focus on your brand identity and stay consistent.
One of the most important tools behind creating a unique brand is the brand guideline, also known as the brand style guide. Essentially, it is a rulebook designed to create a unified identity when connecting multiple elements within your brand. The guideline covers everything from the brand’s visual identity, such as the logos, color palette, typography, photography, and iconography, to how it presents itself to the public eye through its voice, tone, and messaging. Having a thorough brand book is crucial because it ensures the brand’s image remains consistent and recognizable, no matter where it shows up. It also serves as the brand’s foundation for familiarity and eventually opens the doors to brand loyalty.
02 / Develop your brand’s story through storytelling.
A fundamental component of creating a timeless brand is the art of storytelling. As a designer, I believe one of the most important skills designers need to have is focusing on the message the brand should convey to its target audience through problem-solving. This can be successfully done by creating an emotional connection between the brand and the customer, with the brand acting as a guide or mentor that can help them solve their problems. Once you start seeing potential customers who come into contact with your brand as characters in your brand’s story, it becomes clearer what the problem is that needs to be solved and how it should be solved through the brand’s storytelling.
03 / Build trust and loyalty with your target audience.
When building a brand, it’s important to understand the emotional needs of your customers and how to create a strong and lasting connection with your target audience. This helps build trust and loyalty among your audience.
Examples of how to build trust in your brand include:
Focusing on brand transparency and authenticity, such as sharing personal touches that resonate with your audience.
Building brand credibility by showcasing your expertise in the field.
Providing value to your customers by sharing knowledge and resources.
Creating a memorable and enjoyable client experience that will further increase brand loyalty and exceed your customers’ expectations.
Focusing on social proof by sharing reviews and testimonials from previous customers.
04 / Focus on both your brand and user experience.
It’s important to mention that brand experience and user experience are related concepts and can work hand in hand, but they are not the same thing. In fact, brand experience is the overall perception, feeling, and lasting impression your customer has in response to your brand. User experience design is based on purposeful and user-centered decisions that take into account every detail of your branding in order to provide the best experience for your target audience. It focuses on how your client interacts with your brand’s products and/or services for the most efficient and pleasant user experience. It also refers to the consumer’s impression after using and interacting with your brand’s products. Ultimately, both concepts are important in leaving an overall impression on your brand.
05 / Be innovative and adaptive, but selective with the trends you follow.
Lasting brands aren’t afraid to adapt and keep up with the times in this ever-evolving world. This includes having a keen awareness of what is popular in your industry, today’s culture, and what is currently trending. It’s important for your brand to develop a strategy focused on innovative solutions that better suit your customer’s needs and maintain brand relevance. However, you want to be very selective with the trends you decide to follow, as following too many trends can damage your brand’s image. You want to ensure your brand stays relevant for the right reasons, stands out from the crowd, and remains authentic in a space where almost everyone else is doing the same thing. Being mindful of this will allow you to choose which trends would be beneficial for your business’s needs.
Following these tips won’t guarantee that your brand will remain relevant in the future, but they serve as a strong foundation to guide you through the branding process and help you create a memorable and timeless brand experience for your target audience.
